What is easy about learning Spanish?
Spanish has always been a go-to language for English speakers to learn due to its practicality and wide reach.
Quick history lesson (bear with me)... Spanish is one of the "romance languages." That doesn't mean it is romantic in that sense, but that its roots date back to the Romans and, specifically, Latin. English is not a romance language, but is influenced by Latin (thanks to the Romans invading England and leaving some words behind), so we see many words repeated in both languages. For example...
- correcto means correct
- delicioso is delicious
- pizza is also pizza in Spanish (and Italian, for obvious reasons another Romance language)
The good news is that Spanish pronunciation is fairly straightforward. It’s a phonetic language, so for the most part its words are pronounced in the way they are written - what you see is what you say!
Perhaps the biggest pro to choosing to learn Spanish is its usage in our everyday lives. Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world, with over 450 million native speakers. So, whether you have chosen to make your forever home in Spain, you have a holiday home in Spain or you like to travel in Spanish speaking countries – if you can communicate at even the most basic level in Spanish, you will be greeted with warmth and appreciation!
