On 1st December, we will be kick off the festive season with a sparkling evening of fine food, great company and one of the best entertainment duos on the island - all in support of the Lanzarote-based charity "Living With Parkinson's", for which The Spanish Coach Janet Harper is proud to be a co-Founder, in memory of her father John.
Who are Living With Parkinson's?
Living With Parkinson's aim is to offer support to those living on the island with Parkinson's and other neurological conditions and (importantly) also their caregivers. Studies show that 1 in every 32 people will be affected by Parkinson's and its debilitating conditions. Currently there is little or no support available on the island and LWP want to change that by raising awareness and much needed funds via events like this one in order to offer
- support for care-givers via short respite assistance,
- activities and seminars on topics such as nutrition, movement, relaxation techniques etc
- aids / equipment in the home
- longer term, surgeries offering counselling and medical advice
"None of us know what is around the corner for ourselves or our loved-ones. With 1 in 32 people affected these conditions will, most likely, touch someone we know. We are starting from scratch to build this facility - but with your help, together we are stronger." - Janet Harper, Co-Founder of Living with Parkinson's
